MDS AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE
The Macular Disease Society is launching its first ever awards programme to recognise excellence in the care of people with macular degeneration (MD).
Please Note - Nominations Are Now Closed for the 2009 Awards
The awards cover clinical services as well as rehabilitation and emotional support and will also recognise the work of campaigners, fundraisers and volunteers in the Society’s 175 local support groups.
MDS Chief Executive, Tom Bremridge, said:
“There is a great deal of good practice, innovation and dedicated work involved in caring for and supporting people with MD. We want to acknowledge that and to thank those who are providing excellent services.
“We also want to thank the people who work so hard for the Macular Disease Society and its members.
“I would encourage anyone who knows of a person or team who deserves recognition for the work they do to nominate them for one of our awards.”
Individuals and teams are also allowed to nominate themselves.
The closing date for entries is 30th June 2009. The presentations to the winners will be made at the MDS annual conference in London on September 19th.
The Macular Disease Society is the only UK charity dedicated solely to the cause of people with macular degeneration. From small beginnings just over 20 years ago the Society has grown to be the biggest membership organisation in the visual impairment sector with over 17,000 members. It has been closely involved with the fight to obtain NHS treatments for Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration and was a consultee in the NICE appraisal of Lucentis. Mr Bremridge is also a member of the Vision 2020 UK executive board and sits on the Royal College of Ophthalmologists MD group. He is also a board member of the AMD Alliance International.
The Society runs 175 local support groups, a helpline and counselling service and publishes a wide range of patient information leaflets.
